Weekend Writing Prompt #132 – Draconian – by Sammi Cox

Weekend Writing Prompt #132 – Draconian – by Sammi Cox

Sammi Cox’s Rules:

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem/prose must contain this week’s word.  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem/prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.

*continuation from last weekend and at least 5 months worth

 (Last Weekend I wrote)

“I can’t wait to take this DNA test and confirm this ineffable woman is lying and get her off of my back.”

“I told you that it is your baby, and you can’t get rid of me that easy,” Linda replied to Ron.

Linda reaches for the needle and jabs it into her abdomen, jabbing at it over and over.

“Are you crazy, woman?” And they rush her off immediately.

********This week!********

Ron regretted his draconian ways of dealing with Linda and her baby, especially if it was his. He felt responsible for the death of the fetus. While he sat there beating himself up, they were working on Linda.

They were searching for a heartbeat. Silence. Ron was crying, and Linda was shouting and cursing, and they finally knocked her out so they could work on her. With her quiet, they could hook her up for an ultrasound.

“There is no heartbeat,” Ron said haltingly. “He or she is dead.”

“Actually, sir, she wasn’t pregnant. There’s no fetus here.”

“I knew she was lying.”

Scrambled Signals?

By Tessa Smeigh

“Linda what did Joey do with my communicator. What am I supposed to do with this? I can’t get anything up, but a picture of people holding blank word bubble signs,” Ron asked. “I have to contact the leader. Now!”
“Here, you can use mine and see if you can make some other contact,”

These tidbits have been continuing from week to week for about 5 months or more now…hard to write a continuing story when you only have 280 characters per piece and a picture to fit in but I am doing it! This is getting harder and not sure how much longer I can continue it.

Lights in the Night

By Tessa Smeigh

Hearing helicopters in the distance prompted Ron and his family to move quickly for shelter. The graveyard was too open.
“Do you think they know we weren’t terminated Ron,” Linda asked.
“Well, the fact that the gold also disappeared may have been a hint. Stay out of the lights!”

Fishing Memories

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Luke was looking forward to fishing with his son who was aged eight at the time. He started to get the equipment together and checked out borrowing a boat from his dad who fished all the time. Of course, his dad wanted to go with them and fish as he hadn’t been out in a while since he couldn’t fish alone.

Luke agreed to take him although he wanted it to be just him and his son. Common-sense won out when he realized that times with his dad were slowly coming to an end due to his age and health. There was plenty of time for him and his son to fish after his dad was gone.

After the day, he was glad that he hadn’t missed out on this time spent with his dad as his dad passed away that night in his sleep, and his son had memories of fishing with grandpa.

“Well, Linda, it is time to do the DNA testing. The test is a blood test of the fetus, and you can’t replace anything as you could with a urine test. I will be tested too, of course,” Ron said.

“I don’t want to do this,” Linda said.

“You have to, that was the ultimatum as to whether we stay together or I move back with my wife.”

“You aren’t moving back with her. I told you it is your baby.”

“If there is a baby.”

“There is one!”

Where in Hell?

By Tessa Smeigh

“Where in hell have we landed,” Ron asked Linda.
“I don’t know, you have the control in your back pocket. You must’ve hit the wrong button since it was pre-programmed with the next destination.”
“Joey, were you playing with this?”
“Yes dad, I thought it was my phone, sorry.”

Gone?

By Tessa Smeigh

“Well?”
“Found the gold sir,” the VP said.
“Take them to the termination room. I want them gone, now,” the director said.
They were locked in and the terminal started it’s count down. Huddled together they held tight. “5, 4, 3, 2, 1.” FLASH!
They were gone. So was the gold.

Still Alive!

By Tessa Smeigh

“Where’s the gold, Ron.” the director asked angrily.
Ron remained quiet.
“Did you search them when you took them out of the car,” the director demanded.
“No!”
“Where’s the car?”
“Compactor!”
“You fool, the gold is probably hidden in the car. Lock ’em up in Sue’s office and go see,”

Flipping Houses

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

I enjoy watching the shows where they flip houses. There are plenty of them galore on cable tv. Take your pick.

There are some of these programs that show expensive houses, and then on top of that, they spend large amounts of money to restore them. They buy these houses sight unseen at times. They have no idea what they will find inside. There are hoarder’s delights, disgusting messes including animal and human feces, and some with either animals or people living inside.

On the other type of show, the flipping companies bid on houses about to be torn down and rarely spend more than $1000 on them. This makes more sense to me than the ones that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy and then find a moldy, termite-infested home and have to pay several hundreds of thousands more to fix it. At times even the foundations are cracked.
