SYW Artic Ice

Rules from the originating poster Melanie Cee:

This week I’m doing something a little different.  Still questions and answers, but this week I’ve gathered those from other bloggers.   There are a few more than usual too, which you can choose to answer all of or some of.   If you’ve done the question on that other blogger’s site, feel free to use the answer you gave to them if you want.   Each blogger is credited for their contribution.

QUESTIONS:

Courtesy of Rory:

Are we losing the art of listening in comparison to simply hearing? Yes, most of the time I think people just make out as if their listening, but if you asked them what you just said they wouldn’t know and I have been guilty of that myself.

How often do you openly discuss with friends or here in WP with your readership topics that make you feel uncomfortable or may be taboo or stigma laden? If they come up, I answer them. I am advocating for mental illness and invisible illnesses.

Do you think that these discussions should be freely discussed and written about more? Yes I do.

Did you have a nickname as a child and if so, what was [or what is it now]? Terri as a child and up to 2012 til I changed it to Tessa for blogging. Though old friends and of course family still call me Terri.

Why is there still ‘stuff’ we simply just don’t understand despite our progressive world? Because we don’t care to understand. We are all wrapped up in ourselves.

Would you rather double your height or lose half your weight?  (In response to last week’s double your weight, half your height query).  Thanks Leslie!  I would like to lose half my weight. That other one wouldn’t have fit for me.

What is your most essential kitchen tool?  (Can be a person you know.  For the non-cooks in the crowd). Robert Irvine (cook and love his show “Restaurant Impossible.”

Who is one blogger you really admire and why? Trent McDonald – he encourages us to smile.

QUESTIONS:   Now I realize that everyone doing SYW doesn’t live on this side of the world and on the other side of the world it’s now winter.   So substitute, if you’d like and if it’s more appropriate, “winter” for summer and answer the questions that way.   🙂

  • Are you a Summer person?   A Winter person?   Or one of the other seasons suits you best? I prefer the spring, then fall, then summer and then winter. I hate heat and cold so spring suits me best followed by fall and then that is followed by summer because freezing is the absolute worst.
  • What is your favorite summer time clothing?  I usually wear shorts and a tee shirt and sneakers (diabetic sneakers).
  • Do you find yourself eating out more during the summer?  Or making ‘cold food’ like salads and stuff you can heat in the microwave? I rarely cook so either it is microwavable or fast food.
  • Do you like watermelon?   What’s your favorite summertime treat? I love watermelon and my favorite treat is ice cream for sure.

Are you thankful it’s finally (sorta) dry and warm? We are having quite a few thundershowers if you can call that sorta dry LOL!

QUESTIONS:

Would (or do) you stop to help (presumably) stranded folks by the side of the road? This is a tricky one. On my own, also on the oldish side (in my 60’s and a female), I would not. Sorry, but too much happens to people when they stop to help. Now with that being said, my ex-husband would always stop and that included members of the top motorcycle gangs like the Pagans, etc. He was a motorcyclist and so that meant he had to stop even though he might have been slightly worried. They were always appreciative so it wasn’t a problem. Now one time we were on our motorcycle and he stopped for a motorcyclist. He couldn’t help except to go to the guy’s home or friends and tell them their friend was stranded. That guy had the nerve to tell him to leave me with his motorcycle and he would go with him to talk to them. Luckily my now ex-husband had enough sense to not leave me and the guy finally had to give us an address if he wanted help. We drove there and told them and then left. If they went to help him we never knew. Our part in that was done. The second situation was when I was with my daughter. She would insist on helping. Usually it was women and children thankfully, but still, they could just be a plant to get you to stop. I was very uncomfortable, but each time she was right and could get them help.

Do you think the world is less mannerly today than in past times OR are we just more touchy and manners are as they’ve always been? Oh yes, people don’t even look up from their phones and just expect you to open the door or whatever and forget a thank you. We are bringing up the most unmannerly people nowadays. They simply aren’t learning manners or to behave. I hate to see kids just running around doing whatever they want while mommy and daddy are on their phones.

What happens if you’re scared half to death, TWICE? I guess you die a full death. Silly question.

If ALL the world’s a stage, where does the audience sit? In the atmosphere.

(There is a further question…the gratitude question, below the graphic.  Sorry folks!)

I agree with Melanie’s assessment in her answer. Today’s government is ruining our country. The world hated us before this recent batch, but now it is even worse. I won’t even read the news or watch it on tv anymore because I don’t want to know what other awful things they are up to now.

QUESTIONS:

  1. What social stigma does society need to get over already? Well, there are several actually that I can think of. A big one is the mental health stigma. I do my best to get people to understand that there is nothing wrong with being mentally ill. It is just like any other illness. Then, of course, there is the gay, bi-sexual, transgender, etc. Those people have just as much right to live as they see fit.
  2. What was the last photo you took? I tried to take a full-length selfie of myself. Before that, I took a picture of my son and I at Christmas with my little Christmas tree which used to be my dad’s and I redecorated it.
  3. When was the last time you snooped and found something or found out something you wish you hadn’t? Believe it or not, I am not a snooper. I just am not built that way. I sure don’t remember ever doing it anyway.
  4. What’s the most comfortable bed or chair you’ve ever slept in?  I can’t ever remember being comfortable sleeping. Bed or chair, it is super uncomfortable and especially now that I am older and have all this chronic pain.

Can being grateful change Your World? I do believe so. Being ungrateful is not a good thing.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Do you believe in soul mates? If so, do you think there is only one person meant to share that bond with you, out there in the world?  (credit to Cyranny of Cyranny’s Cove) If there is I have not found him. My first and only real relationship was a dud other than my 3 children. Will my soul mate show up in the years I have left? I am almost 63 years old.
  2. Ice cream cone, shake or other ice cream concoction? I love love love ice cream in all shapes and forms. My favorite is probably a banana split.
  3. What would be the hat to end all hats? What could you wear on your head that would make people stop what they are doing and stare in awe and amazement? I never wear anything on my head so no matter what I put on my head would draw people’s attention. A neighbor gave me a pull on multicolored hat like the woolen ones people wear at winter time, but no way I would wear that. I threw it in a drawer.
  4. What would be the worst “buy one get one free” sale of all time? High heels. I never, ever wear them. I wear flats if I have to wear a fancy shoe and they are hard to find in a super small extra wide. Now that I am eligible for special diabetic shoes I can get an extra, extra wide shoe, but it is still a little too long. The special inserts make it fit fairly comfortably.

HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE!

Bonus Question.   Please share a moment of gratitude that you experienced during the past week. My gratitude moment would be finding these great leggings that are so comfortable and have pockets that I can put my cell phone in or anything else I put in my pockets usually. Plus I have to get new shirts to go with them since I need a longer, tunic type shirt. New wardrobe, yeah! I am really overweight so finding leggings that I can fit in at all is a surprise, but to find them and they are comfortable is great. The company is Pop Fit Clothing and big on Face Book.

QUESTIONS:

  1. If you could interview anyone from your life living or dead, but not a celebrity, who would it be and why? My great-great or great-great-great grandmother who was a full bred natural born Native American Indian. I would to hear about her life and how she came to marry the man she did.
  2. As a child, did you have a nickname?  Did you carry that with you throughout life or was it only in childhood that you used it? I was always called Terri for Teresa. Here in blogland only I am called Tessa since I always liked that name, but changing Terri for everyone to call me Tessa would just be too difficult. The first time I got snail mail addressed to Tessa Smeigh my father is very confused. He didn’t know I used Tessa online and when one of my online friends wrote me she used Tessa because that is how she knows me.
  3. Give us three words that describe you: honest, emotional, trustworthy (yes I was a girl scout LOL!)
  4. Sneaking into a second movie at the theater (if you go to a movie house)?  Is that wrong or just harmless ‘fun’? Well I think it is wrong. You paid for one movie and therefore should only attend one, but that is how I got called Miss Goody Two-Shoes LOL!
  5. If you had a time machine would you go back to the past or forward into the future?  Why? This is hard. I had a horrible childhood and my life up to now (I am 62) hasn’t been too good, but not sure I want to go to the future as my chronic pain isn’t going to get any better, but worse. Unless a miracle happens my life-style is also going to get worse as I get older. If I go back and still remember what my future was maybe I could change some things to make my life better.

What were you thankful for during April? I am thankful we have had much warmer weather. At least when I am outside. Inside though it is too hot and I have to run the air conditioner already which is not so good for the electric bill, but at least I have an air conditioner which a lot of people here don’t have and the farther up you go in this building , the hotter it gets.

QUESTIONS:

    1. Was the last thing you read digital or print?  I am currently reading books on how to write a memoir which I have started to create.
    2. Are you more an extrovert or introvert?  I am an introvert and to the point that real people scare me. Meeting new people gives me extreme anxiety.
    3. How is your life different from what you imagined as a younger person? When I was a child I had dreams of being an oceanographer and also exploring shipwrecks like the Titanic. (I am afraid to go under water, sharks and scuba diving.) I also planned on 12 children. (Hmm 3 is fine thanks LOL!)
    4. Do you think about dying?   Does death scare you?  Why or why not?  Death originally scared me terribly. I had terrible dreams and real thoughts about losing someone especially my parents. When my mom passed it wasn’t as bad as I had always thought. I miss her terribly, but life goes on. Now I worry about my 87 year old dad. He had a stroke, is getting dementia and now has to live in a long term care center. Losing him will be harder as he is my last parent, but in many ways I have already lost him due to the brain damage from the stroke and his dementia. I have thought about dying, even tried to commit suicide, but I didn’t really want to die and luckily for me it wasn’t my time.

Additional Gratitude Bonus Question:  Who has been the kindest to you in your life? I would say my BFF. She hasn’t been in my life for long. Maybe about 12 years or so, but she would do anything for me and is always there for what I need. She’s in her 70’s whereas I am only 62. I worry about losing her to death as well. Of course everyone must die at some time and some die before being born. I have to just accept my time with her and cherish it.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Guns?   Are you pro or con?  Explain your point of view. I am against guns. I am afraid of them for one thing and I don’t think people need them as we should be able to live in peace. I don’t believe in wars either.
  2. How would your country change if everyone, regardless of age, could vote? We don’t need everyone regardless of age voting, but we need those who have the right already to vote, to actually vote. We also need all votes to count, not the electoral college. That is just so outdated. Things would be so different if we counted real votes.
  3. What’s your cure for hiccups? a teaspoon of sugar
  4. What’s the coldest you’ve ever been? When the cold has gotten into my bones, for example losing the electricity on the coldest night or day and the heater can’t run.

Gratitude

If you would like, share a story, a photo or some thoughts on you may be thankful for this week! I am thankful that my rent renewal that came up this month actually gave me a decrease of $45 per month.

Questions:

  1. What does a successful relationship look like to you? Honesty is important. I hate to see couples yelling at each other and name-calling.

  2. If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for? Writing is about it for me. I am not terribly good at many other things, especially singing or sports.

  3. What do you wish you knew more about? Baking although technically I hate to cook or bake. LOL!

  4. What is better in your opinion – asking for forgiveness or permission?  Asking for permission. I hate people that just do what they want and then figure all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and all is well.

Questions:

What is the best pick me up that you know of?  To shake you out of the blues?

Writing or sleeping!

What would be the title of your memoir?

What’s up Doc?

Where do you like to go when you eat out?

If I could afford it I would like restaurants like Red Lobster, Ground Round, Olive Garden, but on my budget I am lucky to go to a fast food restaurant.

Do you believe in luck?

Not really. I believe more in fate or that God has a plan for you. Although sometimes I wonder how some people seem to have what I would call luck, but it is still part of their life plan.

Gratitude Question:

Aside from necessities, what is one thing you couldn’t go a day without?
