Category Archives: Photo Prompt

To see my most recent work check out the blog post below.

I write a lot of my stories as serial stories using prompts. I have many different stories, the longest one is 50 parts if I am not mistaken. My current one is here and still in progress. You can use this post to start with part one and work your way through and then go directly to that blog and continue it.

This blog contains several serial stories and I used a lot of them in varying sizes in my very first novel which will eventually go online on the newest blog http://www.tessadeanauthor.com and then if I continue writing novels as a series I have several longer serial stories on that same blog as that is the one I update all the time. I don’t update this one very often. Those serial stories contain the middle of a possible novel and need both a beginning and an end. As most prompt sites request family-friendly work I will be updating those stories to murder or mystery stories and definitely on the dark side. So you can see why these aren’t quite as dark as they could be. I don’t go into much detail. Book One/Intro To The Possible Series is not a dark murder mystery as I am just getting used to writing that genre and I don’t think I know enough to make it a psychological thriller/murder/suspense story.

Fishing Memories

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Luke was looking forward to fishing with his son who was aged eight at the time. He started to get the equipment together and checked out borrowing a boat from his dad who fished all the time. Of course, his dad wanted to go with them and fish as he hadn’t been out in a while since he couldn’t fish alone.

Luke agreed to take him although he wanted it to be just him and his son. Common-sense won out when he realized that times with his dad were slowly coming to an end due to his age and health. There was plenty of time for him and his son to fish after his dad was gone.

After the day, he was glad that he hadn’t missed out on this time spent with his dad as his dad passed away that night in his sleep, and his son had memories of fishing with grandpa.

Flipping Houses

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

I enjoy watching the shows where they flip houses. There are plenty of them galore on cable tv. Take your pick.

There are some of these programs that show expensive houses, and then on top of that, they spend large amounts of money to restore them. They buy these houses sight unseen at times. They have no idea what they will find inside. There are hoarder’s delights, disgusting messes including animal and human feces, and some with either animals or people living inside.

On the other type of show, the flipping companies bid on houses about to be torn down and rarely spend more than $1000 on them. This makes more sense to me than the ones that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy and then find a moldy, termite-infested home and have to pay several hundreds of thousands more to fix it. At times even the foundations are cracked.

Airport Mishap

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

The airport lounge was packed with holiday travelers. The snowstorm raging outside put most flights on delay. Families with small children were having trouble keeping their children under control for such a long period.

John and Carrie’s little girl had a red coat and hood. Suddenly John took off across the lounge and grabbed a little girl out of her mother’s arms. The mother began screaming, and John headed back to his wife.

Security arrived and grabbed John, who hadn’t realized that the little girl wasn’t his daughter. His wife turned around to see what all the fuss was about, and she was holding their daughter in her arms.

“John, what the hell are you doing with that little girl? Cassandra is right here in my arms,” Carrie said. “Let that little girl go, you idiot!”

“Oh, geez, I’m sorry. I thought it was my little girl. They’re dressed the same, and I couldn’t see her face.”

“Do you want to press charges ma’am,” the security guard asked.

“No, I can understand how he felt, and I might have done the same thing. We have to be careful with our children.”

Birthday Surprise – The Old Deuce Coupe

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Danny was disappointed when he looked at the pile of birthday gifts. None of them were large enough to be what he desired the most, a little car like dads jeep. He had hinted to everyone he knew, but here he sits with the little pile of gifts, and holding back the tears as he didn’t want anyone see him cry, he was a big boy now.

“Danny why aren’t you opening your gifts,” mom asks although she knows the answer. She couldn’t wait to show him his surprise. She had Bob take it out and put it on the other side of his jeep so Danny wouldn’t see it too soon.

Danny struggling with the wrap on his aunt’s gift was ready to chuck the whole affair and head to his room. Why does she always wrap the entire present in tape? Finally pulling off the last of the tape he finds a small helmet. “What’s this for, I don’t need it,” he says nearly in tears again.

“You’ll see Danny, just open your gifts,” mom says.

He opens the next one and finds a small leather jacket just like his dad’s and it even has stripes. He stops and puts it on immediately. Now he starts to grin, that miniature look of his father becoming evident on his face. The next one contains gloves. After opening a few more non-essential gifts he turns to his parents expectantly. “Any more?”

“Well, Danny it’s sitting just to the other side of your dad’s jeep.” And he was off. Wearing his gloves and leather jacket and the boots his sister had given him and hoping with all his might that he would see what he wanted to see.

“A mini-coupe, jeez thanks, mom and dad. Just what I wanted.” He jumps in and takes off across the yard.

Chairs in the Air

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

The crew had worked hard setting up for the pageant that night on the beach. They set up outside because the weather report was for a beautiful night.

The girls lined up in their gowns for the initial start of the pageant. Since it was a county pageant, they lined up in alphabetical order of the state’s counties.

The audience was starting to file in and seat themselves. The pageant officials had reserved seats for the families. The rest of the audience sat behind them in no particular order.

As the announcer starts the program, the breeze begins to pick up. The contestant’s hair and dresses are starting to blow around.

The sky darkens. The waves are picking up. There is barely time to get inside to safety. Everyone is crammed into the lobby of the hotel.

The guests and contestants watch the chairs on the beach begin to blow around. Trash and kids toys blow into the lobby window.

The skies darken more than usual and as quick as it started it was over. People start venturing out and stop.

Strung up through the stairs were a lot of the chairs caught on the rungs and on each other.

Surprise Birthday!

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Dana was not used to the high heels. She wore flats since she was 6 feet tall and taller than most boys as it is, without adding high heel shoes. She had a handful of Birthday balloons filled with helium, which she assumed her boyfriend Toby sent her early this morning.

Today was her 21st Birthday, and she wanted to start it out with a bang. Suddenly she falls off the heels, and she falls with a bang on the road, and that wasn’t the type of bang she meant.

She let go of the balloons in shock. She grabbed her knees in pain. They were scraped and bloody. Tears started falling. She searched for a tissue but ended up wiping the tears and blood on her torn white dress, not caring about staining even though she was on her way to visit her boyfriend. The tear in the dress had already ruined it, so the stains didn’t matter much.

Sitting on the road crying she fell someone come up and put their arms around her. She jerked back and looked at who had grabbed her and was relieved to see Toby.

“What happened to you? And where did those balloons come from,” he asked her.

“I fell off these blasted heels and didn’t the balloons come from you?”

“Sorry you fell, hope you didn’t hurt yourself too badly, but no, the balloons aren’t from me. These are,” he said. And then she noticed the balloons in his hand.

“Oh they are so much prettier than these, but who gave them to me?”

“A mystery. Do you have a secret admirer?”

“Not that I know of. I like yours better.”

He gives her a quick kiss and then checks out her wound. It had stopped bleeding, and he gave it a quick kiss and held out his hand to help her up. Just then Rodney came racing up and shoved them both to the ground. The balloons flew away, and Rodney started kicking Toby over and over. Dana took off a heel and hit Rodney in the head knocking him out.

“Those darn heels were good for something,” they both said at the same time.

Rodney was coming to so they took Toby’s belt and belted his hands together and called the police.

“Happy Birthday, baby!” They could hear the sirens in the distance. Rodney was trying to get loose.

Selfie Disaster

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

“Aw Mom just take your selfie already so we can send them all in one text to Callie,” Marshall said.

“I don’t remember how to take them.”

“Are you kidding me?”

“Look, Junior, you know how much trouble I have with this smartphone. Nothing has changed. I would prefer to go back to my old phone. Why do I need this smartphone anyhow? I prefer to use my desktop computer. Just take my picture with your phone and send that picture. Why does it have to be a selfie?”

“We just want them to be all the same. I will set it up and you will see your picture in the frame and you then just hit the button on the camera. Do you think you can handle that, Mom?”

“I suppose so, but I don’t see why you can’t just take my picture yourself.”

“Here, Mom, it is all set up and ready to go. Make sure you are in the frame the way you want it and hit the camera button.”

There was a flash, and then Mom said, “Here it’s all done. Don’t ask me again.”

New Age Beach

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

The beach was getting grungier every year. Mike and Sally walked past the beach every day to work at the restaurant. At one point they enjoyed the walk past the beach with its happy, everyday beachgoers. The girls in their bright bikinis strutting their stuff. The males all following them with their eyes and whistling.

As the years passed, they walked slower and slower, and the beach became an undesirable place to be. If you could look out past the sand to the water near the horizon it was still pretty, but otherwise, they now turned their heads as they went past.

Today scanning the beach quickly hoping to see some miracle their gazes came to rest on a rusted shopping cart plopped in the sand. The waves were bringing in more and more junk everyday.

Birdie Costume

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Kellie had a costume party to go to. She searched for a costume at the local store. Nothing suited her. Suddenly in the back of the store, she found a bag and looked inside. She found a bird costume. It had a red-breast, so she assumed it was a robin red-breast. She paid the salesgirl and headed home.

She pulled up videos on the computer to get an idea of how the bird acts. She got a few ideas on movements and practiced them. She thought they looked convincing.

Arriving at the party she was shocked to find out no one else was dressed in a costume. They had played a prank on her and tricked her into wearing a costume. As they started to laugh at her she burst into tears.
