Weekend Writing Prompt #110 – Glacial – by Sammi Cox

Weekend Writing Prompt #110 – Glacial – by Sammi Cox

Sammi Cox’s Rules:

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem/prose must contain this week’s word.  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem/prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.

*************continuation from last weekend**************

“Work it out with her?” Rhonda’s stare was glacial.

“Well sure, you didn’t think I was planning on making you permanent in my life now did you?”

Connie says, “Keep her or not, I don’t want to be in this marriage anymore. I am tired of your affairs.”

“Oh Connie, please, let’s talk about it.”

“There is nothing to talk about. Sign the divorce papers now,”

If we were having coffee, I would be drinking iced tea because I can’t stand this heat. You may have coffee or tea, whichever you prefer. If we were having coffee or tea I would tell you that the Lyrica is not causing a problem, but it isn’t helping either. Maybe I need a stronger dose. I can barely walk because of the pain.

I would tell you that they are coming to inspect our new floors. One of the bad things about living in public housing, everything is paperwork and inspections. I need to try and straighten this mess up before they come. We are supposed to keep things tidy, but my disability forbids much of that.

Today was food pantry day and that is so hard. I drive and my friend does the carrying. Without him carrying, I would not be going. And he needs a ride for the most part. He is thinking about stopping one of the two we go to. He stops I stop, which I won’t miss. My pain makes it so much more difficult. As it is I share half of it with some of my neighbors who can’t get out and go themselves.

I would also tell you that Sunday is brunch with my BFF. We meet every Sunday unless something comes up which isn’t often. I look forward to it. She is thinking about having her knees replaced and that could mean no brunches for quite a while. She still doesn’t know if they will approve the surgery anyhow.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #91

Open and Free

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

“I do not wish to cheat on you, dear husband.”

“Whatever do you mean, my dear wife?”

“I have met a man, who I find dear.”

“I still do not understand.”

“I want an open marriage, you are free as well.”

“Do you mean I may continue to see my dear Rochelle?”

“What do you mean to continue, you scoundrel?”

“Oops, I thought you had found out about her.”

“No I hadn’t and I hadn’t realized you were cheating on me.”

“I am sorry dear wife, that just slipped out.”

“Well, what if this butcher’s knife should just slip and cut your heart out?”

“Oh please, don’t do that, I am so sorry my dear wife. “

“You are free to see your man, I shall never say a word of this again.”

“Lucky for you, I am the forgiving sort!”

Friday #fotoflash June 14, 2019

DB McNicol’s #fotoflash

******************************

John and Josie spent the day fishing and arguing. They had been doing this since the day they were married 5 years ago.

They sat on the little pier and put their lines in. Occasionally they would catch a fish big enough to save for dinner. They added it to the little bit of rice they had every day. Thank God for rice or they would eat even less.

Josie resented the life she had married into. John didn’t care about her one way or the other. Most of the time he told her she was ruining his life. One more mouth to feed, and now she was pregnant. Just what they needed.

John didn’t know yet, but it was only a matter of time before he noticed the bulge of the baby. She tried to not undress in front of him and her clothes, from the thrift store, were large and shapeless already.

Summer turned to fall, and the leaves started to fall, and the weather was getting too chilly to fish. She found John eyeing her more and more, and she was sure he noticed the bulge of the baby. He didn’t say a word, but one day he asked her to go fishing even though the weather wasn’t nice. She didn’t want to, but John told her they hadn’t been catching any fish and he was tired of just rice and so they needed to fish.

Josie told him she would be out shortly as she had to change into something warmer. Hurry up he said and left the small house.

She changed and came out of the house. She walked out on the pier and picked up her rod. Before she could sense his intentions, he had grabbed a hold of her, and threw her over and into the water, holding her down until she stopped struggling.

He let go and she floated in the water. He picked up the rope, and tied it around her, and then tied a large rock around her. He started to walk, dragging her body after him. He knew about where the lake deepened, he had checked it out several days ago when she hadn’t been with him and marked it with a bobber and rock.

Reaching the bobber, he started to feel around with his foot until he found the ledge. He pulled her over and pushed her body over the ledge and she sunk. Elated that it was deep enough to hide her body he headed back to the house and climbed into a warm shower and stood there until the water ran cold.

He lifted the board that hid his valuables and lifted the sack that contained his savings. He was going out to get a decent meal for once. No more rice and fish for him.

Fandango’s Provocative Question #27 #FPQ

Fandango’s Provocative Question #27

So today’s provocative question is all about Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs:

“If you could choose one — and only one — particular malady, condition, or disease for which a safe and effective treatment was available, what one condition would you choose to treat and why is that your choice?”

I would choose Diabetes. I started as a Type 2 Diabetic. Slowly over the years, I got worse. A couple of years ago I started to use insulin and was an insulin dependent diabetic. Now I no longer make my own insulin and I am a Type 1 Diabetic with an insulin pump that constantly pumps insulin through my body. It is attached to my body and always in the way. I didn’t mind the 4 x a day injections, but my doctor said this would control my sugars better and he is right. I have to change the infusion site every 3 days rather than 4 injections a day.

SoCS for Saturday June 15, 2019

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS June 15/19

Here’s your prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “social.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Here are the rules from Linda Hill:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Pingback! It’s important so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post, you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

I am not a social person. I avoid most parties if I can. My family hates my excuses for not coming even if they are real. My social life consists of going to brunch with my BFF on Sundays. I don’t have to deal with the family drama there.
