#WEEKENDCOFFEESHARE : publishing my book, the memoir on my blog
Directions from ECLECTICALLI
Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)!
Grab a cup of coffee and share with us! What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans? Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about?
All are welcome! Just add your link to the Linky-List, and be sure to visit others and join in their conversations! The link will be open from Friday, February 8th at 7am (Pacific Time) until Monday, February 11th at 7am (Pacific Time) to give us a good range of “weekend”!

If we were to have a coffee chat this weekend or for me ice tea for sure since I don’t drink coffee and it is too hot for hot tea, I would tell you that I have decided to publish my book, the memoir, but not the traditional way. I am publishing it on my blog. I don’t have the money to publish it even if I finish it completely in the next few months. The idea of trying to publish the old fashioned way is not for me either. Then there’s the problem of the family having any issues with the content even though it isn’t really anything bad. They get upset if I mention them or their kids on FaceBook. They do not care to read my blog. They simply aren’t interested so this seems the best way to go, plus the government would have a fit if I were to make any money off of it. Any income would take away the little bit of extra help I get from them in addition to my disability, but wouldn’t be enough to pay for all the expenses they now cover. So it is just easier to self publish FREE on my blog. It is still a way of publishing and sharing with others.
Chapter one is up. You can go directly to chapter 1 here or to the Book Page “The Marines Corps Doesn’t Issue Wives – A Memoir” here.
I belong to two book groups so I have some help with my writing as at least one of the members has been published and helps others. Not sure if I just want to publish what I have already or wait until I can run each chapter past her. I would have to wait quite a while. I could always revise my chapters later if I find a reason to.
My pain is still bad despite the fact that I got my pain pills back up to 4 a day. She never did give me an answer as to why she lowered them. Then she added Topamax to my mix. Not sure how that will help. I think it is making me super exhausted. I find myself sitting here falling asleep and falling off the chair almost. Worrisome. I am taking a very small dose.
I got all the shirts I ordered for the leggings. They all fit, but one style. I sent them back. They are nice and long and hide my big butt LOL!
Sunday is the weekly brunch with my BFF. Don’t know what the weather is supposed to be yet though. I hope it won’t rain. It’s not so bad if I can park close to my building and then close to the restaurant.

After reading the table of contents, (the title of your book caught my eye, before reading this post,) I at once started to search for where I could buy the book. I see now that I can’t buy it, but I so look forward to reading it. My daughter’s dad is a Marine. In fact I started to write a book about life with a Marine years ago, but realized that I could never publish it. Best of luck with your book!

Thank you. I am glad that you would be interested in buying it if I had chosen to publish it the traditional way. It makes me feel good. The table of contents may change frequently as memories emerge. Chapters may change as memories emerge. I may repost that there have been updates along the way. I was going to wait each month for my writing group to edit/proofread, but I didn’t want to wait that long so I am working on it now and making changes even on the chapters they have read and done. Being as it is my book I could always publish it the traditional way sometime in the future. Memories just keep coming to me. Glad you are interested. Thank you!

I think it’s a great way to do it. Like you said, when you have it all on paper it’s easy to publish later on. Best of luck!

Sometimes the best way to share your experiences is on the blog.

I have been sharing them for years now. Might as well continue. My family is not interested in it either. They could care less. Sometimes that hurts, but I don’t have to worry as much about what I say. It’s the truth. As long as I don’t put it on Facebook that is all they care about. I don’t spend much time on Facebook anyhow..
