SoCS for Saturday May 11, 2019

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 11/19

Here’s your prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “strain.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Here’s the rules from Linda Hill:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

I think I have strained something in my back plus my normal aches and pains. I can’t believe how much pain I am in right now. The percosets aren’t helping. This has been going on for at least three weeks or more. I haven’t been to visit my dad at the nursing home and I feel bad, but the trip to see him is so long that I can’t do it. I have a long walk out of my apartment to the elevators, down them and then across the building, out the door and across the lot to my car. Once there I  have a long parking lot to walk across to the lobby of the building. Then down a long wing to their elevators and the down 2-3 long wings to his section. It does me in when I am not in intense pain and I am out of it for a day or two. Right now I am already out of it so I am afraid to even try it and that is with constant stopping to sit. My dad says he understands and it’s ok. I believe him. He really worries about me so he would be upset if I came and it hurt me.

Last month my doctor took me down one pain pill per day. I was in intense pain from that and maybe I just haven’t gotten back to the full dosage of 4 pills of days. I just don’t know. This is month two of severe pain. I just don’t know what to do. Oh, and she also put me on Topamax and not sure why she did that. I ran it by my psychiatrist because I run all those types of medications by her. She doesn’t know why she would have prescribed it but doesn’t foresee a problem.

I just looked up Topamax. I am not sure what it has to do with pain issues other than migraines. I do have them occasionally though so maybe it may help, it is a very low dose. I liked the weight loss side-effect. That would be great as I am gaining weight ever since I went on insulin. I am super tired. I just fall asleep sitting in my chair writing. Not good. Can affect my Bipolar Moods which is good since my Bipolar moods are not completely under control. But like I said the dose is really small. Most adults take 200 mg twice a day. I take 25 mg once or twice a day. The top dose would be 4 times a day. Not much. I don’t know. It could cause pain if it was kidney stones, but it doesn’t say it causes them just that there could be pain if you had them. Have to keep an eye on it.

I take 100mg Topamax/day for migraine prevention and it helps some. It’s only for people who have chronic migraine (or seizures) because there are side effects. I lost a little weight too a long time ago. Been on it now for 8 years.

It is used off label for many things and many of those things I have, but there isn’t a reason that my pain dr would be prescribing me a small dose of it. It could help my bipolar and mood swings, they prescribe it for weight loss, but the side effects are not so nice when I look at the list. Many drugs are sold off label for other things and this is one of them that has many uses, I just don’t understand them and ran it past my psychiatrist just in case. She said just beware of the confusion that could occur. Since I already suffer from that it is hard to tell if it is the Topamax or not. I couldn’t remember how to post to my blog earlier. I was extremely tired so went to bed and was fine when I got up.

Sad that you have so much pain, that reduces the quality of life a lot ! Fortunately I belong to the once who have now health problems besides a breathing one called COPD.

Ugh! Taking several different medications and trying to keep up with them all, the times to take them, and what goes okay with the other ones…I write down each time, just so I know I didn’t forget one during a day.
Hope your back pain eases up soon. 🙂

Thanks I just got up at 7 PM after sleeping straight through 11 hours which is unusual. I usually wake up every 30 to 60 minutes. Sleeping through is not usual, but then I am getting the virus or whatever is going around here. Worst off is a serious long-lasting cough. I seem to be getting it now too. Everyone around me has been very sick for weeks with this. I don’t need it. I can’t go visit my dad with it even if my pain gets better and I can do the long walk.

I know this season has been bad for coughing and colds/flu. I was in the hospital at the end of January for pneumonia! Thank goodness it cleared up fairly quickly.
Yes, that would be a strain to do all that walking to get to go see your Dad, plus you wouldn’t want to have him catch anything. Best to wait til a better time.

I called my sister and let her know that I wouldn’t be up to see him for a while. I am not sure how long this will hold on to me. Most of the people where I live (senior housing) have been hospitalized from it. Not looking forward to it. Hope it isn’t that bad.
