SoCS for Saturday March 30, 2019

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 30/19

Here’s your prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “dough/d’oh.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you like. Enjoy!

Here’s the rules from Linda Hill:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

I could use some dough in order to buy the rest of the pieces that would make my insulin pump more useful. I am not sure exactly how many pieces there are that compliment it. I know the one thing that would be very useful is the continuous glucose monitor. It runs constantly taking your blood glucose and feeding it to your insulin pump to keep your sugar running at a much  lower and constant level. i have the glucose monitor that will automatically put my BS number into the pump, but it is still a monitor you have to use by hand and the strips are extremely expensive so I use my insurance covered brand and take my levels 4 times a day. The other one is one your wear and change every 9 days and it constantly reads your BS levels automatically. I have to change the pump infusion set and insulin reservoir every 3 days.

All are welcome! Just add your link to the Linky-List, and be sure to visit others and join in their conversations! The link will be open from Friday February 8th at 7am (Pacific Time) until Monday February 11th at 7am (Pacific Time) to give us a good range of “weekend”!

*********************************

If we were to have a coffee chat this weekend or maybe ice tea as the temps have risen to the near 70’s or higher at times of the day I would be complaining about the heat in my 6th floor apartment. I have the air on to try and bring it down some. The fans aren’t working

Wasn’t planning on visiting dad this week as the long, long walk from the facility parking lot and the 3 long wings I have to walk down was more than my poor back and hip wanted to attempt, but just found out my sister has been sick all week and not able to visit and I didn’t want him worrying about why she didn’t come. She can visit more than me and he understands my limitations. So I made the trip yesterday and let him know that she’s fine, just sick right now and not to worry that she hasn’t been in to see him. It made him feel better and she was happy that I made the trip to let him know despite my pain.

Still waiting to find out if my BFF and I will have brunch this Sunday or not.

The infusion site on my skin from my insulin pump is feeling uncomfortable. I am not used to feeling it. It is time to change it luckily. Wonder if it is irritated underneath or not.

Have a great week everyone!

Is it Dead?

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

The pile of discarded plants was sad. Someone had just dumped them on the side of the road in front of our house. Mumbling about the mess I had to clean up, I picked them up one by one and dropped them into the yard refuse can.

Suddenly I noticed a spot of color. Digging through the mess that was left I pulled out a pot with a bright yellow marigold in it. It looked full of life still. “Ron, it’s alive!”

Thursday photo prompt: Bright #writephoto

Thursday photo prompt: Bright #writephoto

The Rules:

Every Thursday at noon GMT, I publish one of my photos as a writing prompt.  If you know where the photo was taken, please keep it to yourself until the challenge is closed and I usually share something about the place during the round-up.

Use the image and title provided as inspiration to create a post on your own blog… poetry, prose, humour… light or dark, whatever you choose, by noon (GMT)  on Wednesday  each week,  and link back to the promt post with a pingback to be included in the round-up.  There is no word limit and no style requirements, except to keep it fairly family friendly and not passionately political.

All posts will be featured in the round-up on Thursday.

Target Practice?

by Teresa Smeigh 2019

There is nothing like a stroll through the quiet wooded sanctuaries and state parks. Before walking became very painful for me I used to stroll through the woods and when with a friend he would point out different things in nature to me. We came across deer many times and they didn’t always run away.

I miss the daily walks, but I can’t walk for more than a few minutes now and walking through the forest is dangerous with the roots for my footing. I have taken a few spills. I can’t chance being alone and walking in these areas.

One day we spotted a deer up ahead. He was bounding through the woods and suddenly he disappeared. We continued walking and suddenly we came upon him with an arrow in his side. This was a fresh kill and we anxiously looked around as we headed out of that area quickly before we became the next target.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge – 80

Reena’s Rules:

FOR THE NEW ENTRANTS

There is no restriction on the format or the length of the piece. It just has to be your reflection on the prompt from the core.

Write a post on your blog, and link it up with here with a pingback, or copy-pasting the blog link in Comments.

I eagerly await your responses.

The prompt:

Mental Scars

As a 17-year-old girl I was put in the position of what I call emotional rape. My boyfriend insisted that we have sex and although he did not physically force me, he emotionally forced me by telling me we would break up and he would find someone who would. At 17 I didn’t have the maturity to be able to say no and realize that the world would not end. That affected me deeply and to this day (I am 62 now), I am still emotionally affected at times.
