SoCS for Saturday March 23, 2019

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 23/19

Here’s your prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “the last piece of mail you received.” Talk about the subject of the last piece of physical mail you received, i.e. a gas bill–talk about gas, not the bill itself. Have fun!

Here’s the rules from Linda Hill:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

Well one of the last pieces of mail I received was my EOB (explanation of benefits) for my medical care. It just happened to be the one that showed the cost of my insulin pump. The amount they asked just for the pump alone, was almost $9000. Of course, they were held down to the agreed upon price and it cost $5000 now, with my share being 20%. That doesn’t count all the supplies I need to change the tubing and insulin. My medical care cost the insurance company a lot. There are a few more things that can be added to this insulin pump to make it easier. Although I am sure the dollar amounts are out of my budget. There is an automatic blood glucose reader that feeds itself continuously to the pump, so you never have to worry about highs. I manually check mine and feed it into the pump myself. Not sure what else there might be.

Inheritance!

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Dad had told all of us kids that he had buried his inheritance to us and that he had hidden it in the backyard and “X marks the spot.”

What a cliché!

We all headed over to dad’s house and headed to the backyard. All we saw was a field of stones of varying sizes and I do mean varying sizes. Some were small stones, and some were boulders. We started wandering around looking for freshly dug holes. Although where he would put an X remained to be seen.

I tripped over a small rock. It was painted with the letter “E.” How weird!

I didn’t think about it at first and continued to search my area of the yard.

Suddenly my brother yelled he had found a stone with a “P” painted on it.

Things started to fall together, and I told my brothers I think dad had used the stones, rocks, etc. to use as marking pieces. So, all we needed was the one with an “X” on it.

Quickly turning over stones we eventually found the one marked “X” and moved it aside and started to dig where the small stone had lain. A metal box came into view and after opening it we found written on a piece of paper, ha ha made you look!

When we got back to the hospital dad was laughing. Then he handed us his bank account number and the key to the safety deposit box which we would need once he had passed, along with his will, etc. His doctor hadn’t given him long to live. We tried to laugh along with him. Dad always had a great sense of humor.

100 Word Challenge – inspiration is the word boredom

100 Word Challenge (boredom)

Boredom!

by Teresa Smeigh 2019

Here I sit thinking. Trying to come up with a piece on boredom. I have several prompts to catch up on, but I am not really feeling it right now.

I had to clean off my computer desk looking for the piece to my cellphone that allows me to add a headset, but it wasn’t there. It was a very small piece and I was ever so careful with it for over a year, but somehow it has disappeared. I am sure it is someplace safe. Why do we always lose things from where we put them to be safe?

*****100 words*****

Tara’s Rules

1) I provide a one-word prompt.
2) Write anything you want using that prompt, either as inspiration or as part of your 100 Words.(That means you don’t have to actually use the prompt word, it can be implied.)
3) Your story has to be EXACTLY 100 words (because someone will ask, hyphenated words count as a single word.) This is the one rule I will be a stickler about.
4) Submit your story here as a comment, as a Facebook status, or as a blog post. (Add the specific FB status or post’s URL to the Mr. Linky list just under the prompt.)
5) If you write a blog post, please link back to this post. It makes it easier for me and the other Wordsters to find you.
6) You have one week to write your story and link up (The link stays open, so you can really submit stories whenever… this is the one rule I don’t really enforce.)
