Staring at the line of children’s projects, one stood out. It was extraordinary. Simply too good for an 8-year-old to have put together. I suspected that the child’s parent or both had done the project for the child.
This child was a normal child. Most of his work was very ordinary and typical for an 8-year-old child. I was expecting something unexceptional from him and now this.
I had the unwelcome job of confronting the parents about their child’s work. The child would never learn if the parents did his homework and it wasn’t fair to the other children.
“Mrs. Johnson, I know you want your child’s work to be extraordinary, but at this point his work should be typical of an 8-year-old and not what appears to be the work of an adult. You are not helping your child any by doing his work for him. He needs to learn. Please let him do his own work from now on. Look at the other children’s work. They did their own work and it is right on target for their ages.”
“My child is not ordinary, he is exceptional. He’s the best,” Mrs. Johnson murmured under her breath.

Lol… there are a lot of parents like that. I know one who claimed in a newspaper article that her 12 year old could give a lecture on particle physics … He failed math.
