PAGE 195, LINE 4 – 3/11/19

PAGE 195, LINE 4

Rules from the Haunted Wordsmith:

If you haven’t participated in this fun little prompt before, it’s quite simple. Grab a book…any kind of book…and flip to page 195, then count to line 4. Use that line as a prompt for a post. You can take the quote directly as used in that story, or simply find inspiration in the line and come up with something else.

Simply provide the quote (along with book title and author) and have fun!

If you want to participate, simply write a post and link it back to this post so everyone can read it.

“That is the way things were done when I was young, Monsieur.”

Murder on the Orient Express, Agatha Christie

********************

The teacher and his class watched the author getting ready for his lecture. He pulled out a pad of paper and some pencils and announced he was ready.

“Where’s your computer,” the young teacher asked.

“I use pen and paper,” he answered. “That is the way things were done when I was young, Monsieur.”

Day 12 Prompt – Swimming Through Raspberry Jello

by Teresa Smeigh 2019

Swimming through raspberry jello.

Slows me down and makes me mellow.

Bright red colors brighten our space.

Hope we can pick up our pace.

Questions:

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?  If you don’t think Heaven nor God exists, you might want answer by saying something outrageous, just for fun! This is hard as I don’t know what I would want to hear. How about we have been expecting you? You are forgiven for your sins?

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? Watching your parents turn from the strong parents you admired to little children that you have to take care of as they sink into dementia and strokes. My dad is just like a little child now and has to look towards my sister and I to take care of him which upsets him when he is lucid.

What do you think about when you’re alone in your car? Usually I am worrying about where I am going and what I have to do when I get there.

How would you rate your memory? Poor. I can’t remember things five minutes later and I repeat myself over and over and annoy my kids.

And lastly:

What’s one song that always cheers you up, no matter how blue you’re feeling? I can’t name a particular song, but to me rock and roll makes me happier and wanting to move to the music.

Three Things Challenge: PL25

Three Things Challenge: PL25

Rules from originator:

Welcome to the Three Things Challenge. Every day at 10PM (PST) I will post three seemingly unconnected things that will, hopefully, ignite your muse. You don’t have to use all three things if you don’t want to. There are no restrictions on length, style, genre, or anything. Simply read the prompt, see where your muse takes you, and bring us along for the ride. Use 3TC as a tag if you’d like and link back to this prompt, or post your link in the comments below so others can find you.

Happy Writing! 😀

Today’s prompt: sandwich, cloud, legend

**************************

Watching the cloud formations, we ate our sandwiches and tried to guess what each one was representing. Tiring of this we began to talk about the legends of the oldies bands and artists. There are so many legends from the old days and we couldn’t decide which ones were the best. We disagreed frequently.

We finally went back to the cloud formations, we may have not agreed, but the feelings weren’t running so high that we almost came to blows.

The Sneak

By Teresa Smeigh 2019

Sneaking through the bushes that were below her bedroom window to the tree that was there, Lindsey scratched herself numerous times. Every time she did this she wondered if her parents had done this on purpose to keep her from sneaking out. It hasn’t stopped her yet, but it wasn’t easy.

As she stepped over the windowsill and into her room the light flipped on and her parents said, “Look what the cat dragged in.”

The tree was gone the next day.

OPPOSITES ATTRACT CHALLENGE #8

OPPOSITES ATTRACT CHALLENGE #8

Rules from Haunted Wordsmith:

Welcome to the new Opposites Attract Challenge!

For this challenge, I provide one word and a list of its antonyms. The challenge is to use the prompt word AND one (or more) of its antonyms in some form of writing (or creative work).

Explore the word and its opposite … challenge your creative side

HAVE FUN!

Today’s prompt:
extraordinary

Antonyms:
common
customary
normal
ordinary
typical
unexceptional
unextraordinary
usual

******************************

Staring at the line of children’s projects, one stood out. It was extraordinary. Simply too good for an 8-year-old to have put together. I suspected that the child’s parent or both had done the project for the child.

This child was a normal child. Most of his work was very ordinary and typical for an 8-year-old child. I was expecting something unexceptional from him and now this.

I had the unwelcome job of confronting the parents about their child’s work. The child would never learn if the parents did his homework and it wasn’t fair to the other children.

“Mrs. Johnson, I know you want your child’s work to be extraordinary, but at this point his work should be typical of an 8-year-old and not what appears to be the work of an adult. You are not helping your child any by doing his work for him. He needs to learn. Please let him do his own work from now on. Look at the other children’s work. They did their own work and it is right on target for their ages.”

“My child is not ordinary, he is exceptional. He’s the best,” Mrs. Johnson murmured under her breath.
