Throwing the mirror at the wall all I could think about was how beautiful my sister was and how ugly I thought I was. She dated all the time and all the men seemed to love her. I sat home alone almost every night except for the nights I went to the church meetings. No one paid me much attention. I sat alone most days.
One day I was walking home alone, and Jonah stopped and asked me if I wanted a ride? I looked behind me as I didn’t think he was talking to me. After some mental debate I decided to get in the car.
We had the most wonderful conversation and spent hours talking over coffee and pie. This became our meeting night ritual.
One night he asked me to marry him. I was stunned! “Me? You want to marry me? What about my sister? You must want her surely. Everyone else does.”
We talked long into the night and he convinced me that he really wanted to marry me.
I never thought that was possible.

Meandering down the paths of the local park, Chris and Suzy held hands and talked about nothing in particular. She had tried finding out where they were going, but Chris wouldn’t tell her.
“I have found a great spot and I have a surprise for you,” he said.
They came out onto a clearing that had a large pond. The spot was beautiful. The birds and insects were chirping as they looked for a spot to sit.
“I know we have been in this park before, but I just found this lovely pond and would love to make it our place. Will you marry me?” He pulled a jewelry box out of his pocket and opened it to show her a ring.
She pulled back in horror. The ring was on a finger, a human finger.

“Mom, what the heck is in this box, it’s so heavy?”
“Books of course, what else would be so heavy?”
“Mom, I know you love your books, but get rid of the books as I am not carrying these boxes back and forth every time you move, which is way too often as it is.”

Darkness is swallowing up my senses. I am all alone in this darkness. It is creeping up behind me. As though the sun is being eclipsed by the moon. I am trying to out run it. It seems as if it will always be this way. Always looking over my shoulder. Waiting for the sun to come out again. I need to rejoin the world. It is not good to be alone. Where is the sunshine?
